It takes a special person to become a Manhattan Review test prep instructor. Obviously, we want people who have received high test scores (typically in the top 1%), but high scores alone are not enough. Some test prep companies hire on this basis alone, but at Manhattan Review, we go much deeper. We want to know a great deal about a prospective teacher's academic background. Where did she attend university? In what subject did she major? What was her GPA? These are only a handful of the questions we ask of potential instructors throughout our thorough interview process. Our London classroom teachers and individual tutors are distinguished graduates of the most highly ranked prestigious universities in the English-speaking world, and they possess subject-matter expertise in many different academic disciplines. We also greatly consider previous teaching experience, and we only bring on people who have substantial prior teaching resumes. Finally, we choose instructors with personalities and outside interests that make them well-suited for test prep instruction, especially in the areas of approachability and classroom presence. Additionally, all new hires are comprehensively trained in Manhattan Review's particular methods and materials. Our highly selective hiring process cultivates test prep educators of rare ability to meet and exceed the needs of our students in London, Manchester, Oxford, Cambridge, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and all over the U.K.
The origins of Manhattan Review began in New York City in 1999 by Joern Meissner, who was then a doctoral student and instructor at Columbia Business School. Meissner was frequently lauded by students for his practical explanations of complex ideas, and as a result, a group believed his style of instruction would be ideal for Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) preparation. At the time, GMAT prep was lackluster left a lot to be desired. In response, Meissner created a series of GMAT lectures that used his trademark method of teaching. Early returns were beyond positive, and these lectures would become the basis of Manhattan Review's first test prep courses.
Manhattan Review has since expanded into the world's leading international test prep company, with offices in cities in London and around the world offering services for all of the major standardized university admission tests. Our company has helped thousands of students prepare for acceptance to the universities of their choice by improving their SSAT, SAT, ACT, ISEE, GMAT, GRE, LSAT, TOEFL, and/or IELTS scores. We've also published a number of test prep textbooks, assisted business professionals improve their language skills, and enhanced university applications with our admissions consulting services. At Manhattan Review, we strive to combine the resources of a global company with the personalized service of a local firm, effectively serving the educational needs of the London and the U.K.
Joern Meissner is an internationally distinguished business school professor with a Diploma in Business Management at the University of Hamburg and a PhD in Management Science at Columbia Business School in New York City, one of the top Ivy League Schools. After finishing his doctoral degree, he chose the career trajectory of an academic and has now more than 25 years of experience as a postsecondary educator. His passion for teaching is evident, and he has taught business courses at the University of Hamburg, Lancaster University Management School, the Leipzig Graduate School of Management, and the University of Mannheim. Meissner's research on supply chain management, dynamic pricing, and revenue management has been published in several well-known and respected academic journals. While Professor Meissner thoroughly enjoys his research, he believes that grasping an idea is only half of the fun; conveying knowledge to others is even more fulfilling. This philosophy was vital to the establishment of Manhattan Review, and continues to remain its most cherished principle today.
