While other test prep firms will make hiring decisions based solely on an instructors own test scores, at Manhattan Review, we take into account more than just stellar upper-percentile test score performance. High-scoring students can frequently make poor educators, and this is simply because test-taking and teaching test prep require a different skill set. For this reason, high test scores are only a bare-minimum prerequisite for Manhattan Review's UK GMAT instructors. We also look at academic performance at the undergraduate and graduate levels, variety of courses taken, business knowledge and experience, teaching CV, and perhaps most importantly, a bona fide passion for GMAT instruction that excites and inspires students to achieve their academic and business goals. Selected candidates for GMAT tutor positions are thoroughly trained in Manhattan Review's course syllabi and instructional procedures. This hiring and training practice gives our students in London, Manchester, Oxford, Cambridge, Birmingham, Edinburgh, and Glasgow the informed, reliable, and dedicated GMAT instruction that their goals demand.
In 1999 Joern Meissner, who was then a lecturer and doctoral student at Columbia Business School, planted the seeds for Manhattan Review in New York City. Professor Meissner's lectures to MBA students at Columbia were defined by a special ability to simplify and streamline complex concepts to their essence. Several of these students inquired if this method could be implemented to develop better GMAT prep courses than the ineffective and banal content memorization available at the time. Professor Meissner created authentic GMAT lectures that became instantly popular with soon-to-be business students in London and around the U.K. Thus, an innovative, cutting-edge test prep company was born.
Manhattan Review has since become an international educational services firm that provides prep courses and private tutoring for the GMAT, GRE, LSAT, SAT, SSAT, ACT, ISEE, TOEFL, and IELTS in London, Manchester, Oxford, Cambridge, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow in addition to other major European, North American, Asian and Australian cities. Joern Meissner is an internationally renowned business school professor with a Diploma in Business Management at the University of Hamburg and a PhD in Management Science at Columbia Business School in New York City, one of the top Ivy League Schools. Upon completion of his doctoral degree, Meissner chose the career track of an academic and has now more than 25 years of experience as a postsecondary educator. His passion for teaching is apparent, and he has taught business courses at the University of Hamburg, Lancaster University Management School, the Leipzig Graduate School of Management, and the University of Mannheim. Meissner's research on supply chain management, dynamic pricing, and revenue management has been published in several well-known and respected academic journals. While Professor Meissner thoroughly enjoys his research, he believes that grasping an idea is only half of the fun; imparting knowledge to others is even more fulfilling. This philosophy was paramount to the establishment of Manhattan Review, and continues to remain its most treasured principle today.
